Kingston ‘Sugar Pine’ supplies lining up nicely for spring promotions
Kingston Fresh, a distributor of potatoes, onions, pineapples, grapes, mangos and melons sourced from farms in the United States, Mexico, Central America and South America, announced that supplies of its Costa Rican MD2 variety golden pineapple program — the Kingston “Sugar Pine” — are lining up nicely to meet peak demand for spring promotions.
Kingston Fresh ‘Sugar Pine’ pineapples.“Overall, I am extremely happy with what I am seeing,” Ken Nabal, president of the Idaho Falls, ID-based company, said following a recent visit to pineapple farms in Costa Rica. “The crop looks great and is setting up nicely for good volume and quality for the spring. Volume forecasts for April and May look to be ideal for strong pineapple promotions.”
While the pineapple program remains the flagship import program for Kingston Fresh, the company has steadily expanded into several other key globally sourced programs, including cantaloupes, honeydew and watermelons from Guatemala, as well as seedless grapes and citrus from Chile.
In addition, the company is looking forward to the start of the spring mango campaign from Guatemala, with first shipments of Tommy Atkins and Ataulfos to commence in early March.
“Our strong ‘boots on the ground’ presence in the countries we operate gives Kingston a distinct advantage as it relates to monitoring overall quality,” said Nabal. “We are working hard to build our Kingston product portfolio and remain focused in delivering our brand promise: A relentless commitment to quality, food safety and customer service.”
