W-word dominates floral news stories
Weather, and its effects, have permeated most of the 2014 agricultural industry news — crops freezing in Florida and California, a drought in the West, the polar vortex pushing up heating costs for nurseries, ice storms and blizzards snarling distribution of perishable products. It has been a challenging year so far, to say the least.
Looking at the preliminary results for Valentine’s Day floral sales, there is a positive note to add to the weather news. In spite of all the obstacles and meteorological adversity, there was a slight increase in the holiday’s floral sales. Regionally some areas were definitely hurt, but the overall numbers for the country are encouraging.
Many of us in the northland are questioning if spring will ever come. So to reassure the doubters, this issue of Floral Marketing previews the spring holidays of Easter and Administrative Professionals Week. Our guest columnist, Cindy Hanauer from Grand Central Floral, shares some practical strategies to maximize the untapped potential of Administrative Professionals Day.
