Two new lettuce varieties from Mann Packing Co. — Scarlett Butter and Honey Gems — are selling well and were served in the hospitality suites at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, during the Super Bowl.
“Distributor feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” Gina Nucci, director of healthy culinary innovation, said in a press release. “We can hardly keep up with demand.”

Scarlett Butter is an heirloom-style lettuce with dual-color leaves and a grassy aroma. The sweet and petite Butter lettuce is versatile and can be used for several foodservice applications.
Honey Gems is a gourmet whole-head lettuce with a succulent taste that can be served as a wedge, whole-head or loose leaf in a salad. A European lettuce variety, Honey Gems is a cross between Romaine and Butter lettuces.
Mann Packing recently created two videos for foodservice operators that introduced the varieties and preparation processes for using them at their operations.
“With the healthy diet upswing and increasing demand, these gourmet lettuce varieties offer the characteristics consumers want from lettuce — crunch and taste — and the efficiencies that are important to operators — minimal prep,” Nucci said.
