Kingston Fresh adds Chilean grapes to its portfolio
Kingston Fresh announced the addition of Chilean grapes to its growing imports portfolio. The Idaho Falls, ID-based company is scheduled to receive its first arrivals in early February into the Philadelphia ports, which positions it to service key customers on the Eastern Seaboard and Midwest markets.
As part of its "boots on the ground" approach to international imports, Kingston President Ken Nabal traveled to Chile in January to visit grower-partners and personally walk grape and citrus fields.

"Surveying our grape production over a four-day period, I saw a lot of fruit on vines with consistent bunches and excellent berry sizing," Nabal said in a press release. "Weather has been near perfect and we are excited with what we're seeing."
While the Kingston Fresh trademark "Sugar Pine" golden pineapple program from Costa Rica remains the flagship import program for the company, it has steadily branched out into several other globally sourced products in recent years. Currently, popular imports such as mangos, melons, papayas, asparagus, imported citrus, tropical roots and sweet onions are all a part of its value-added offerings to foodservice customers and retailers alike.
"Our broad distribution network, renowned customer service and experienced logistics team continue to build our reputation in the grower community in Central America and South America," Nabal added in the press release. "Strong partnerships with the best growers are the cornerstone of any healthy, high-quality import programs. We are making great strides in our expansion plans at Kingston -- we are growing in both our existing product lines as well as also adding new items where it creates value for our customers."
"Along with the addition of a Guatemalan cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon program this past winter, the Chilean grape program will tie in with several other strategic sourcing opportunities on tap for 2014," David O. Kingston, chief executive officer and owner of Kingston Cos., added in the press release. "In recent years, we have made a significant internal investment into our team of talented professionals at Kingston. I am very pleased with the leadership we have put in place. The key to future growth at Kingston is to remain steadfast in our brand promise -- a relentless commitment to quality and food safety."
