New Jersey Department of Agriculture finds the New York Produce Show to be one of the most important events on its trade show calendar
“The New Jersey Department of Agriculture will definitely have a presence at the New York Produce Show on Dec. 10-12,” said Al Murray, assistant secretary of agriculture for the NJ Department of Agriculture located in Trenton, NJ. “We will be at Booth No. 607. We have exhibited every year since this show began in 2010, and we’re looking forward to another outstanding show.”
He added that the agency finds the NYPS to be one of the most important events on its trade show calendar.
“The New York metropolitan region is an extremely important market for New Jersey farmers,” Murray noted. “Given New Jersey’s proximity to New York, this show gives great exposure of New Jersey’s agricultural industry to the region’s key produce buyers and decision makers.”
Because New Jersey’s growing season is pretty much wrapping up by early December, the show, which is being held on Dec. 10-12, allows members of the state’s agricultural industry to take a break from their operations and spend quality time visiting with other professionals at the show, attending seminars and meeting potential customers.
“The NJ Department of Agriculture will be promoting the state’s diverse agricultural industry at the show — the Jersey Fresh program, which is now concluding its 29th season,” said Murray. “It serves as the state’s official marketing program designed to create awareness and demand for New Jersey farm products. The program will be featured at the New York Produce Show.”
Murray added that the NJ Department of Agriculture has teamed up with Rutgers Cooperative Extension in order to offer third party food-safety training and audits to New Jersey farmers.
“To date, over 2,500 New Jersey farmers have been trained in food safety,” said Murray. “After they receive training, the NJ Department of Agriculture staff offers third party auditing on their farm, and if the farmer passes, it receives a USDA certification acknowledging they meet USDA third party auditing standards.”
New Jersey’s agricultural industry regards the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia region to be the number one market for the state’s farm products, although many items reach much further destinations, even into Canada. Because there remains great appreciation and recognition of the Jersey Fresh program, and the State’s produce industry, the NYPS is a great opportunity for the NJ Department of Agriculture to showcase its industry to attendees.
“Because so much of the nation’s produce buying industry is centered in this region, the show allows the NJ Department of Agriculture access to all the important decision makers in one day,” said Murray.
