Loren Queen fills marketing manager post at Domex
Produce industry veteran Loren Queen, who was most recently the product manager for Tart Is Smart cherry juice company, has been named manager of marketing and communications for Yakima, WA-based fruit grower-shipper Domex.
He replaces Eric Patrick, who recently joined the Grant J. Hunt Co. as marketing director.
Mr. Queen's first day on the job was March 13, and he told The Produce News March 20 that it had been a "busy week."
Mr. Queen has worked several sides of the produce industry, starting with ad sales for Fresh-Cut magazine from 1995 to 2002. He left the magazine to handle responsibilities of marketing director for the International Fresh-cut Produce Association, a position he held from 2002 to 2004, before joining Tart Is Smart.
Calling his move to Domex "an opportunity I simply could not pass up," Mr. Queen said that his background meshes well with the new job. A native of the Yakima region, the new marketing manager learned about fruit production first hand from his paternal grandparents, who were apple and cherry growers.
Among the goals he brings to his new marketing and communications job is "to increase apple consumption, and to that end I will be working with retail partners to create eye-catching promotional programs."
Domex's current special promotion is the Flavor Profiles, which provides new dimension to apple identification. Mr. Queen said that the company handles all major varieties as well as numerous newer varietals.
"We have a lot of acreage in Galas, and we're also increasing volume of some familiar stand-bys," he said.
