Ted Koppel to keynote general session at United Produce Show
The United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association announced that television news legend Ted Koppel will address attendees of the 2006 United Produce Show at FMI, May 6-9 in Chicago.
On Sunday, May 7, Mr. Koppel will present a talk entitled "Insight Spanning the Decades," providing an in-depth look into relevant news stories from across the world, including politics, international affairs, economics and the evolution of television. The 41-time Emmy winner also will relate candid stories about events that have influenced history and continue to affect our future.
Former anchor of "Nightline" and a 42-year veteran of ABC News, Mr. Koppel is now managing editor for The Discovery Channel, where he continues to give in-depth reporting on global issues. He also serves as a contributing columnist for The New York Times and gives commentary on National Public Radio.

Mr. Koppel has won every major broadcasting award, including 41 Emmy Awards, 11 George Foster Peabody Awards, 12 DuPont-Columbia Awards, 10 Overseas Press Club Awards and two Sigma Delta Chi Awards, the highest honor bestowed for public service by the Society of Professional Journalists. In addition, in 2002 the George Foster Peabody Awards for Broadcast Excellence recognized "Nightline" with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mr. Koppel is the author of three books. A diary of 1999, Off Camera: Private Thoughts Made Public, was published in 2000. In 1996 he co-authored, with Kyle Gibson, Nightline: History and the Making of Television. He is also the co- author, with Marvin Kalb, of the best-selling novel In the National Interest.
A native of Lancashire, England, Mr. Koppel moved to the United States with his parents when he was 13 years old. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Syracuse University and a master's degree in mass communications research and political science from Stanford University.
United is offering an All-Access Produce Convention Pass, a single pass for all five trade shows, access to all FMI education, including this joint general session, and all United education and networking events.
