Personnel moves have Sun World poised for growth
BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Sun World International LLC has announced several structural changes to the company to accommodate aggressive plans for business development and growth.
Dirk Winkelmann has been named to the newly created position of senior vice president of global business development, with responsibility for international sourcing activities and to expand the importing program to more adequately meet the needs of Sun World's customers.
Mr. Winkelmann comes to Sun World after having spent the past 11 years as vice president of global business development and procurement with Vanguard International in Issaquah, WA. Prior to that, he spent seven years as vice president of operations and managing director of Chiquita Frupac in the United States. He will relocate from Washington to Bakersfield effective April 1.
"Dirk brings a great wealth of experience and knowledge to Sun World and will be instrumental in our strategy of expansion and growth," Sun World President Bruce Burton said in a statement.
To further expand the business, Roger Griess has assumed the new position as director of North American business development and replenishment. A Sun World employee for the past nine years, Mr. Griess will be responsible for sourcing new domestic products for the sales and marketing team.
"We feel there is tremendous potential for us to grow our marketing of outside growers on the domestic side of the business as well," Mr. Burton said in the statement. "Sun World has a long history of providing outstanding service to many growers and packers. Our solid base of terrific customers combined with our skilled sales staff make this another logical area for our future growth."
In other company news, David Fenn now has oversight of quality assurance, food safety and sanitation. Prior to his appointment to senior vice president of quality assurance, Mr. Fenn, a Sun World employee for nearly 20 years, had been senior vice president of southern grape operations. Before that, he served as general manager of operations, representing Sun World's interests in Egypt for four years.
"The appointment of David to this high level senior management position is reflective of the importance we place on maintaining a healthy work environment and in delivering the finest quality products possible to our customers," Mr. Burton said in the statement.
