Okray Family Farms celebrating its 108th year in business
PLOVER, WI — Okray Family Farms Inc., is 108 years old this year, said family owner Mike Finnessy. “We’ve had five generations over the 100 years. Hopefully, we’ll keep going. We buy land every year.”
The firm produces 8,000 acres of crops on its own land. Fresh market potatoes account for 1,800 acres of that total. The firm also ships potatoes produced by other growers.
Okray Family Farms produces 3,000 acres of sweet corn for the processing market, as well as snap beans and peas for processors. Okray also grows field corn and soybeans.
In the potato business, Okray ships golden potatoes, as well as reds and russets. The company provides its customers with white potatoes grown by independent growers.
Okray offers all types of potato packs, including, for the third year, shrink-wrapped microwavable potatoes. These provide good returns and are especially popular in urban markets, where consumers don’t buy large packs of potatoes.
