Mark Overbay leaves United
Mark Overbay, manager of communications for United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association in Washington has resigned from the association. His last day was Friday, Feb. 17.
Mr. Overbay, who joined the association in July 2004, "has played an important role in United's communications efforts for the past several years," United said in a statement. "For personal reasons, Mark is moving out of the Washington, DC, area, and will therefore be resigning his position."
Amy Philpott, United's vice president of marketing and industry relations, told The Produce News that Mr. Overbay is moving to North Carolina to be closer to his family. Ms. Philpott and others at United will be handling his responsibilities until a permanent replacement can be found.
"We'll be going out next week with efforts to hire someone for that position," she said Wednesday, Feb. 15. Asked how long that process might take, she replied, "We'll look as long as it takes" to find the right person, adding that when Mr. Overbay was hired, "the process took just under four months from beginning to end," so she is anticipating a similar experience this time around.
"We are all happy for Mark that he's going to be closer to his family," she said. "It will be a challenge to fill his shoes, but we're confident we can do that."
