IFCO donation benefits hunger-relief group
SAN DIEGO — IFCO Systems, a global leader in reusable plastic containers for fresh products, made a donation of RPCs to support Feeding America San Diego's "School's Out, Hunger is Not" program following the United Fresh Produce Association convention May 14-16, here. FASD's program looks to meet the needs of school kids during the summer.

"IFCO is making an annual tradition of supplying RPCs to local food banks after the United Fresh show," Fred Heptinstall, president and general manager of IFCO Systems U.S., said in a press release. "Providing RPCs is one of many ways to support organizations like Feeding America San Diego, which will use them to improve productivity throughout their supply chain and decrease their carbon footprint."
Established in 2007, Feeding America San Diego is San Diego's largest distributor of hunger-relief food, more than 21.5 million pounds within the last year, and the only Feeding America affiliate in the county.
FASD works closely with over 160 partner agencies, local school districts, corporate partners and a network of volunteers to serve 73,000 children, families and seniors in need each week.
"Feeding America San Diego relies on community-spirited companies like IFCO to help us feed the thousands of families in need of food assistance," Jennifer Gilmore, executive director at Feeding America San Diego, added in the press release. "The IFCO RPCs are an efficient, environmentally friendly way for us to transport food and other products for our direct-to-client programs and partner agencies, allowing children, families and seniors to access much needed nutritious meals."
