Maitles resigns Dole communications post
Effective Feb. 3, Marta Maitles will no longer hold the post of director of communications for Dole Fresh Fruit Co. in Westlake Village, CA.
She worked for Dole for more than 13 years and will be leaving the produce industry to work in public relations within the mortgage finance industry. Her new office will be within 30 minutes of Dole's headquarters.
Ms. Maitles said that she has been in public relations for 20 years, and that Dole was her only employer within the produce industry. "I respect the company I'm leaving," she said, and "[produce] has been a very nice industry. I have made friends and contacts I hope will continue" as she continues her communications career within another business segment.
"I've very much enjoyed my part in this industry," Ms. Maitles said. "It very much has a warm feel. When I've gone to conventions -- especially PMA -- it's been like going to a family reunion. You see people you see once a year. You stay in contact and get to know people and their families. You don't see that often in other industries."
She continued, "It is an ideal time" to switch professions because "I became a mom 20 months ago for the first time. There are life changes after that. So I look forward to a new challenge, and I'm very excited."
Ms. Maitles said that the company has not yet decided on her replacement.
