USA Pears spokesman named to Olympic ski team
USA Pears-sponsored athlete and Northwest native Torin Koos has been chosen as a member of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team. In February, Mr. Koos will compete in the Winter Olympic games in Torino, Italy, along with nine other ski team members. This will be his second time as an Olympian, the first being in Salt Lake City in 2002.
This is the first year that Mr. Koos has been sponsored by USA Pears. Kevin Moffitt, president and chief executive officer of Pear Bureau USA, said, "We are very proud of Torin and are excited to be a part of his program. Torin embodies the active lifestyle we promote with sweet, nutritious pears. We wish him great success in Torino."
Mr. Koos is one of the world's top Nordic ski athletes, with stellar performances in the World Cup, including placing in the top 15 for three consecutive competitions, which guaranteed his spot on the Olympic team. Before the Olympic games begin, Mr. Koos will train in Europe for several weeks as well as compete in the German and Switzerland World Cup events.
The USA Pears web site features a journal by Mr. Koos, to which he contributes regular articles. New on the web is an interview between Mr. Koos and the USA Pears nutrition spokes"pear" Auntie Oxidant about how being an Olympian affects his life. The journal and interview are located at www.usapears.org.
