Mid-season cherries peaking for Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers
Commenting July 18 on Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers' 2012 cherries, Marketing Director Scott Marboe said the season has reached the halfway point, and fruit from the high orchards is peaking.
He went on to say that weather has been a factor but added, "We are starting to get in to those orchards we were waiting for."
Mr. Marboe said, "We are now seeing our second peak of the season right through the end of July.

This time of year we are looking at not only large volume but good size and lots of sugar. These higher elevation cherries are the sweetest of the season with amazing color, a perfect reminder of summer."
He reminded produce managers to "keep those displays at the center of your departments to keep the aggressive retails. This is the best time of the summer to make that cherry impact."
Cherries are also part of Oneonta Starr Ranch's "snaQ" program and convenient for outings. They are also favorites for summer recipes and can be canned or frozen for later use.
Mr. Marboe said that in addition to cherries, the entire Washington stone fruit category "is excellent this year."
He said, "We are seeing amazing color, good size, flavor and volume in our Starr Ranch apricots, and their brilliant color makes for a nice color contrast to the display. You will see another category lift with repeat consumer confidence. We are also seeing fresh peaches and nectarines beginning to come off the trees. These will be in full swing by the end of the month with a plentiful crop."
