Stemilt celebrates fifth anniversary of family clinic
Stemilt and its local healthcare provider, Confluence Health, are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Stemilt Family Clinic. Stemilt partners with Confluence Health to offer Stemilt employees, their spouses, and dependents an on-site, a no cost healthcare clinic for all primary care needs and pharmacy services. Stemilt President West Mathison sees the five-year mark as a significant milestone for the company and a great resource for Stemilt employees.
“Stemilt exists to cultivate people and delight consumers with our world famous fruit. Putting our health first via the Stemilt Family Clinic helps our teams work together to achieve our mission," said Mathison. “It’s evolved quickly in five years and is a wonderful and convenient resource our team members and their family utilize. Confluence Health’s involvement is instrumental, and Stemilt is grateful for this partnership.”
Peter Rutherford, CEO of Confluence Health, said partnering with Stemilt not only benefits Stemilt employees but also teaches Confluence Health how to operate a worksite clinic and pharmacy.
“The partnership with Stemilt has taught us how to provide primary care efficiently and effectively at a remote site,” said Rutherford. “Partnering with employers is beneficial in treating a population of patients that might not otherwise seek care. The Stemilt Family Clinic falls in line with Confluence Health’s mission and vision to provide safe, high-quality care in a compassionate and cost-effective manner. We believe, by meeting people where they are, in a way that is more comfortable to receive care, we are fulfilling this goal.”
The Stemilt Family Clinic sees 24-27 patients on average per day or over 5,000 visits a year. Same day and walk-in appointments are available to employees and prescriptions are available to pick up, free of charge, at the clinic pharmacy. The success of this partnership gives Rutherford confidence in this care model. He believes it would be beneficial for other employers in the Wenatchee Valley to carry this same approach to healthcare.
Stemilt’s on-site clinic has proven to be a great resource during the COVID-19 pandemic. The onsite clinic makes it easy for employees to schedule appointments for themselves or family members. Like many workplaces, Stemilt has adopted a return to work policy following any illness during COVID-19 and the clinic staff are able to quickly help employees complete the return to work process.
“Stemilt Family Clinic adopts the same approach Confluence Health has, and then some additional services, during the pandemic,” said Rutherford. “They offer virtual visits when applicable, as well as making house calls for employees needing support.”
Overall, the partnership between the two organizations lends itself in a positive direction and sets the bar high for potential benefits other employers could follow in the future.
“To move forward, it is critical employers and healthcare providers remain innovative,” said Rutherford. “And this approach that Stemilt took with the Stemilt Family Clinic is the definition of innovative. They provide the resources their employees need to live a healthy life.”
