Progressive Produce begins Northern Baja asparagus season
As the central Mexico and Peruvian winter seasons slow down, Progressive Produce will begin opening its fields in Northern Baja, where the region's moderate coastal climate produces high-quality asparagus.
“Every year, we look forward to our Northern Baja season. As we get through July, where weather is unpredictable down in central Mexico, it is great to have this reliable region's crop coming into harvest,” said Sean Barganski, sales manager.
Progressive has been farming in Northern Baja for a decade now and continues to add additional acreage each year to maintain its high-quality supply in the region.
"We will be able to offer our customers promotable volume in a high-quality pack throughout August," said Barganski. "Our team in Mexico is reporting fantastic quality from their first pack outs, and we should expect that to continue for the entirety of this late summer season."
Progressive is especially excited about its purple asparagus offerings from these fields in Northern Baja. For the rest of the year, Progressive can offer a full lineup, including conventional, organic, white and purple asparagus.
"Progressive is a one stop shop for its customers to get their full offerings of asparagus," added Barganski. "Having this asparagus just across the border from our state-of-the-art cold storage warehouse in Southern California allows for a quick turnaround from harvest to distribution to our retail and foodservice customers.”
Product will be packed in 11-pound boxes, but Progressive also has the capability to pack in 28-pound boxes. A dynamic bag program is also available in many sizes and styles.
