Market Minute: Avocados, tomatoes perfect for the Super Bowl promoting

This year Americans will consume nearly 80 million pounds of avocados the weeks leading up to and for the popular football game. Avocados are a game favorite for its famous guacamole.

Pairing tomatoes with avocados is a perfect combination — both contain great taste and health benefits. So make sure to merchandise both together on a Super Bowl-themed display in the produce department.

Avocados: Supply and demand are moderate. Market is steady. Mexican supply will see a very strong demand for Super Bowl weekend. There should be plenty of product available for retailers to promote. Quality and sizing is excellent.

Tomatoes: Demand and market are steady. Improved supplies out of Florida have picked up with prices settling lower to enable promotions. Supply out of Mexico is helping to bring down prices, which is timely for promoting alongside avocados. Quality is excellent.
