Consalo Family Farms partners with America’s Grow-a-Row for Kids Farm Days
Consalo Family Farms participated in this year’s Kids Farm Days program hosted by America’s Grow-a-Row. The Kids Farm Days program offers children hands-on experiences on the farm, encouraging them to explore the origins of their food and the efforts that go into growing it.
Through this collaboration, both Consalo Family Farms and America’s Grow-a-Row are committed to promoting healthy eating habits while providing educational opportunities that inspire the next generation. This partnership represents a shared vision of nurturing sustainable agricultural practices and instilling an appreciation for fresh produce in children.
“Consalo Farms commitment to corporate social responsibility clearly exemplifies what it means to live out and uphold the core values of caring for our neighbors and giving back to the community,” said Chip Paillex, president and founder of America’s Grow-a-Row. “Through their generous produce contributions and support, America’s Grow-a-Row and those we serve are extremely fortunate and grateful to be partnering with Consalo Family Farms and are proud to consider them part of the team in the fight against hunger.”
The Kids Farm Days initiative is aimed at cultivating a love for agriculture and healthy eating among children. By collaborating with this innovative program, Consalo Family Farms is taking a proactive step in fostering a connection between young minds and the importance of fresh produce. To kick off this partnership, Consalo Family Farms has generously donated juicy mandarins, squash and cucumbers.
Kids Farm Days is a program that runs for two weeks in July where children from communities with little or no access to open space, farms or farm fresh produce come to America’s Grow-a-Row for a fun-filled day to learn about agriculture and where food comes from. The organization brings children from underserved communities to the farm to enjoy a day packed with harvesting and healthy eating.
While in the fields, kids learn about how produce grows and are encouraged to taste what they have harvested and to try different ways of preparing the produce in the organization’s Farm to Fork Kitchen. They also get to take home a bag of delicious produce to share with their families. Each child got to take home a bag of Consalo’s Little Smoochies mandarins.
“At America's Grow-a-Row, we focus on building education programs that increase access to fruit and vegetables, and the knowledge required to make delicious meals at home,” said Executive Chef and Program Manager Shauna Alvarez. “Consalo Family Farms generous donation to our Kids Farm Days Program not only expanded the variety of produce that the children took home, but also enhanced the experience of the day — we incorporated Little Smoochies into our culinary activity and kids loved it. We are so grateful for the partnership and look forward to next year.”
“Consalo is involved philanthropically in the local community and in areas elsewhere where food and farming impact society,” said Chelsea Consalo, executive vice president. “Giving back is a part of our culture and I’m so excited to see what we can do to continue to support America’s Grow-a-Row. I knew right away that their values mirrored ours; their team’s passion is truly infectious.”
