Sahid Nahim from New Bloom Solutions is always looking for innovation and a fresh perspective on the floral industry. He found just that at a special charity event celebrating flowers and fashion. Fleur-aissance event was the brainchild of Luz Flora at Royal Flowers. It was in collaboration with ReOrgYou, Inc. and D’Marsh Couture, and all proceeds from the event were donated to the Joshua Heart Foundation, a Miami-based non-profit fighting hunger and poverty.

After the first month of shipping 2022-03 onions from his company’s Nyssa, OR, facilities, Snake River Produce General Manager of Sales and Marketing Joshua Frederick said in late September that demand had begun to level and movement to be good.

“Things have been moving at a steady pace,” Frederick said. “Demand out the gate was in abundance, but now that we here at SRP are in our fourth full week of shipping. It’s leveled out, which we needed to happen so we can focus on getting our crop put away in storage for the season.”

The Pretty Lady Vineyards team will be featuring its premium California table grapes at the revamped IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show in Orlando, FL. The Pretty Lady fields are currently being harvested for their fall crop and will be on display at this year’s show.

California just became the first state to sign a bill that bans the distribution of plastic “pre-check out” bags, a victory for environmental groups and Lotus Sustainables, a Carlsbad, CA-based provider of reusable mesh produce bags.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent signing of Senate Bill 1046 will affect all grocery stores in California and eliminate those rolls of plastic bags that are ubiquitous in every produce section. State Sen. Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton) authored the bill, which passed the legislature on a party-line vote.

Kroger and Albertsons Cos. Inc. have entered into a definitive agreement under which Kroger will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Albertsons common and preferred stock for approximately $24.6 billion, including the assumption of approximately $4.7 billion of Albertsons Cos. net debt.

The transaction is expected to close in early 2024, subject to the receipt of required regulatory clearance and other customary closing conditions, including receipt of clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976.
