United Natural Foods Inc. has appointed Erin Horvath to the position of chief supply chain transformation officer, a new role that will collaborate across functions to help build UNFI’s transformation agenda and future capabilities, drive value creation for shareholders, and create an improving experience for customers and suppliers. She reports to Sandy Douglas, UNFI’s CEO.

Investcorp, a leading global alternative investment firm, has acquired a majority stake in Sunrise Produce, a leading wholesale produce distribution company based in Southern California. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Noting the 2022 early crop had been moving well, Weiser Onion Produce Sales/Management Consultant Herb Haun said harvest crews were well into the season’s storage crop.

A trio of sessions focused on the ever-changing landscape of ag technology have been announced as part of the educational program for the upcoming Organic Grower Summit 2022 presented by Western Growers and OPN, slated for Nov. 30–Dec. 1 in Monterey, CA.

Expo Flor Ecuador held their bi-annual floral show Oct. 5-7 at the Metropolitan Convention Center in in Quito, Ecuador. The event had over 2,000 attendees, breaking the 2018 record of 1,620. The show hosted 106 floral growers, 105 exhibits and buyers visiting from over 42 countries. 

Cold winters make it nearly impossible to grow strawberries out of season for much of North America, but Walmart has found a way to deliver strawberries year-round by working with Mastronardi Produce.

“We are excited to be launching Your Fresh Market greenhouse-grown strawberries exclusively at Walmart Canada,” said Kimberly Roberts, senior director, floral and produce, Walmart Canada. “This new strawberry greenhouse will enable us to offer a Canadian-grown strawberry all year long.”
