Volm Cos. has much to share at IFPA Global Show
There is going to be a lot to see and talk about at the Volm Cos. booth at the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show.
According to Marsha Pozza, the Antigo, WI-based company’s director of marketing and communications, the company is set to share many unique displays at its booth this year.
“With the continued push toward automation, our booth will feature a wide range of equipment solutions,” she said. “The largest and most impressive piece is a specially-designed demo version of the Flikweert Vision QualityGrader. We will demonstrate how the innovative design of the QualityGrader works and explain how it provides the right grading system for packing lines.”
Pozza said that there have been many exciting developments over the past year with the company’s Volmpack and Volmstack divisions. “We have recently designed a solution for placing filled wicketed-style bags into display-ready cases, and we couldn’t be more excited to show the industry what the Volmpack Wicket Case Packer is all about,” she said. “Another hot ticket item is our new bag-to-bin robotic solution. It is a low-profile yet incredibly efficient and reliable system that creates attractive and display-ready formats.”
Pozza said that the North American sales team from Wyma Solutions will also be at the booth, promoting their portfolio of top-tier raw receiving solutions for fresh produce.
“Visitors can also look forward to exploring our complete selection of packaging and materials, including the newest sustainable options for fresh produce packaging,” she said. “Without our customers, we are nothing. We want them to see how dedicated we are to them by designing these new and innovative solutions that they so badly need to stay competitive and profitable. Of course, we hope to catch the eye of those that haven’t worked with us in the past. We are ready to build new success stories with all.”
Volm has a long, successful history in the produce industry. It was founded by Gerald and Dorothy Volm, who along with their children, built the business up as a successful distributor for burlap and paper bags. Over time, the children and their spouses moved this growing business to nearby Antigo, WI, where Volm built its first manufacturing facility. Alan Mueller, Michael Hunter, Chuck Resch and Bob and Cindy Hilger were leading the company, and this when there was a significant boom in packaging design and development, as well as the addition of packaging machinery to the Volm portfolio.
“It was this timeframe where the company experienced tremendous growth, as automated machinery became highly in demand, along with the packaging materials needed to meet the needs of the North American produce market,” she said. “Our capabilities grew as we added more manufacturing machines and added facilities in other parts of the United States to be located closer to where our customers needed us. Today, Daniel Mueller and Michael Hunter II own and lead Volm Cos.
We take pride in our dedication to environmental sustainability and work with our customers to support their efforts as well,” Pozza continued. “Volm offers a strong range of products focused on the ‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ principles. While plastics have received criticism due to inadequate recycling in North America, they still provide benefits like shelf life, food safety, and food waste reduction. These packaging designs have been available for a long time, and now, fortunately, the industry is working to address the end-of-life challenges of single-use bags.”
Pozza, who joined the company 17 years ago, said that Volm’s business model is to serve growers and packers.
“We listen to them to understand what retailers need from them, so we can ensure our portfolio offers the best possible support,” she said.
