Emerson’s new reusable tracker keeps close tabs on shipments
CHICAGO — Emerson released a new tracking device under its Go Real-Time line that provides top tracking technology via a rechargeable unit. The launch was made official at the recent United FreshTEC Expo, here, June 25-27.
The main advantage of its new tracker is the fact that it reusable, something not offered by competing products, according to Juliette Giles, product manager for cargo solutions for Emerson.

The device, which is specifically designed for over-the-road shipments and is around the size of a cell phone, can relay information about temperature, location and door security, providing peace of mind about the integrity of a shipment.
“Information is uploaded to the cloud for easy access,” said Giles. “And every time a truck door opens, it sounds an alarm so the shipper can be aware of a possible breach.”
The device, which has been in development since the beginning of 2018, has been getting a positive response from the trade, according to Giles.
“We started trials in April, and users really like the flexibility and customization of the device,” she said. “We charge the device up front, and if people want to recharge it, we offer a subscription option.”
The device uses 2G cellular network, and Emerson offers a model that uses a 2G/3G network for countries that do not have 2G network availability. Emerson has a global presence and serves customers throughout North America, South America, Asia and Europe.
Ideal for companies that maintain their own fleets, the tracker costs $80 for the hardware and monthly subscriptions start at $25, said Giles.
