Last year, the timing for figs was thrown off because of weather issues, but this year things are back to normal, which is great news for The Specialty Crop Co., one of the largest growers of fresh and dried figs in the world.

Earlier this month more than $5.4 million of methamphetamine was discovered in a commercial shipment of papayas. U.S. Customs & Border Protection officers found 369 packages containing a total of 606 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in the shipment.

This year the Southeast Produce Council awarded 38 SEPC Member Scholarships. Recipients receive one $1,500 scholarship annually. Past recipients are eligible; however, they must have maintained a 3.0 GPA, and first preference is given to new applicants.
