Consalo Family Farms earns Harris Teeter Award
Hard work pays off in so many ways, said Chelsea Consalo, the president of Consalo Family Farms.
In the most recent example, the company’s strong and consistent efforts helped it receive an award from Harris Teeter, the Matthews, NC-based retailer with more than 250 stores in seven southeastern states and the District of Columbia. Harris Teeter, founded in 1960, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co.
Consalo Family Farms was named the Harris Teeter 2024 Partner of the Year for the produce category, an honor given in recognition of the Vineland, NJ-based company’s “outstanding contribution and exceptional collaboration in the produce category” at the retail chain’s annual supplier summit in early March in Charlotte, NC.
“Our family has had the privilege of doing business with Harris Teeter for 40-plus years, and this recognition is incredibly meaningful,” said Consalo. “It reaffirms the dedication and hard work of our entire team — from our family to our employees, who contribute every day to the success of Consalo Family Farms.”
Consalo, who accepted the award along with her sister Sarah, said the collaboration between her company and Harris Teeter demonstrates the respect each company has for each other. “Our long-standing relationship with Harris Teeter is a testament to all of our efforts and this recognition reinforces that our hard work has made an impact. Our collaborative programs have been successful in fostering a great partnership.”
In particular, Consalo pointed out that her company and Harris Teeter have worked very closely on the Mandarins Make a Difference campaign, in which Consalo Family Farms has donated approximately 100,000 pounds of mandarins, in collaboration with the supermarket chain, to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, NC.
“We started this campaign in 2024 and we are excited to be involved again this year,” she noted. “This fits perfectly with our own corporate philosophy as we are passionate about giving back to the community and philanthropy is part of our mission. By working with the Harris Teeter produce department and the company’s community relations department to come up with this program, we have had great success with this initiative.”
Consalo Family Farms is also involved with Harris Teeter and the Brace YMCA in the Charlotte area. Working with Harris Teeter, Consalo has been supporting the Brace YMCA for several years to sponsor the Evening for Impact raising funds to give children the opportunity to attend summer camps at no cost. The two companies also collaborate on the Chef’s Best event, which raises money for the Second Harvest Food Bank on a regular basis.
“Frankly, our experience with the Chef’s Best program made us even more excited to participate on the mandarin fundraiser,” Consalo said, adding that she was thrilled to work with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and its CEO, Kay Carter, doing more great work. Consalo Family Farms will also sponsor the Cooper Bridge River Run in Charlotte on April 5 in partnership with Harris Teeter.
“This entire experience has been extremely significant for our company,” Consalo said. “In addition to the decades long relationship, Consalo is proud to supply nearly our entire produce line — including blueberries, citrus, herbs, greens and lettuce — to Harris Teeter. Due to this long-standing partnership, we have built a tremendous amount of trust between our two companies, receiving this award further reinforces that. We also believe this speaks volumes about our company and how much we can accomplish as a family-owned business. My brother, my sister and I have learned so much from our dad, Skip, and we have seen our company grow so much. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributes to our success.”
