With strong movement across multiple onion categories and favorable crop conditions so far, JJB Family Farms is moving through the 2026 season with optimism while continuing to navigate the rising costs and logistical challenges facing the produce industry.

“We’ve got good volume across white, red, yellow, organic and conventional onions,” said Derrell Kelso, onion manager of the Stockton, CA-based company. “Quality so far is looking great. Everything here is packed to order.”

With the TX1015 sweet onion season in full swing, retailers across Texas are expanding promotional efforts and merchandising tactics to keep the iconic sweet onion front and center during peak grilling season. 

Keystone Fruit Marketing, a division of Progressive Produce, is gearing up for an early June start for the Walla Walla sweet onion season.

Grown in a unique region and cultivated by third-generation growers, Walla Walla sweet onions are known for their exceptional sweetness and consistent quality.

Gold Bell and Morning Kiss Organic will feature both conventional and organic Vidalia onions this spring, expanding their seasonal onion programs with the popular sweet onion variety grown exclusively in Georgia.

Vidalia onions will be available for conventional offerings and the Morning Kiss Organic brand for certified organic products. They will complement the companies’ broader spring and summer onion programs, which include eastern-grown red, yellow and white onions.

Mark your calendar for April 13. That’s when the celebrated Vidalia sweet onions start shipping. These famous onions will soon fill produce departments across the U.S., ushering in a season that runs from April through early September. I personally can’t wait to enjoy these premium Vidalias in my sandwiches and salads.

During spring, Vidalia onions represent roughly 40 percent of all onions grown in the U.S. This year’s crop promises outstanding quality and impressive sizes. With controlled-atmosphere storage, the harvest lasts all the way to Labor Day.

The countdown to one of America’s most anticipated seasonal ingredients has officially begun. Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper, in coordination with the Vidalia Onion Committee, announced that April 13 has been set as the official pack date for the 2026 Vidalia onion season, marking the day growers can begin packing and shipping the world-famous sweet onions to retailers across the country.
