Brookshire Bros. completes 25-store acquisition
Brookshire Bros., a Lufkin, TX-based supermarket retailer, has acquired the assets of David's Supermarkets, a grocery chain based in Grandview, TX. Of the 25 David's stores, nine will operate under the David's Supermarkets or David's Express banners, one will remain Pecan Foods and the remaining 15 will operate as Brookshire Bros.
David's Supermarkets was formerly owned by the Waldrip family, which operated stores throughout north-central Texas for 50 years.
"The Waldrip family serves communities similar to those we serve," Jerry Johnson, Brookshire Bros. president and chief executive officer, said in a press release. "Their values align with ours. We understand their customers. "
According to a statement made by the company, former David's employees, numbering approximately 550, have the opportunity to become employees as well as owners of Brookshire Bros.
"We feel these communities in north-central Texas are the heart of America," John Alston, chief operations officer for Brookshire Bros., said in the release. "Serving them and serving with them in their communities will be our privilege. We are pleased to offer all existing store-level employees of David's a position with our company. Some of the corporate staff has also chosen to come on board, including several third-generation Waldrip family members."
