New York Apple Association launches Snack Responsibly-themed ads

The New York Apple Association launched a series of Snack Responsibly-themed ads to its social media program just in time for the new year. The high-impact ads remind consumers to make healthy choices when choosing a snack.

“Apples are a great go-to snack since they are portable, delicious and are the perfect pick-me-up snack anytime during the day,” said Cynthia Haskins, president and CEO of the New York Apple Association.

The ads appear on NYAA’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and through banner ads reaching consumers in targeted locations where New York apples are in the marketplace.

“Wherever someone is on their wellness journey, we are here for them. Whether they are looking for healthy salad recipes, Snack Responsibility ideas, or folding NY apples into their existing recipes to add some crunch, flavor, sweetness, or tang, we have something for everyone,” said Haskins.

Recently, NYAA produced a series of healthy salads and will launch a new salad idea every month. Salads have become popular over the last several years, with many served as meal options. NYAA shared that they are expanding a healthy recipe section on its website and will roll out its consumer newsletter in upcoming months, making newsletter content available to retail partners that want to include recipe and usage ideas.

Kelly Springer, registered dietitian, spokesperson for NYAA, and owner of Kelly’s Choice, is kicking off the new year by giving television and social media viewers snacking options using New York apples. “The key to healthy living is to eat real food, enjoy treats in moderation and reach for healthy snack options like NY apples. Apples are a great source of fiber and vitamins and are a lower calorie option,” said Springer.

The New York Apple Association has a Dietitian Toolkit available to dietitians, retailers, and foodservice professionals in schools, restaurants, universities, colleges, and others, along with a library of how-to instructional recipe videos and recipes with images of plated dishes. NYAA resources are popular among several audiences, having shipped over 170,000 pieces of collateral this year.

NYAA will participate in the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (NYSAND) conference. The conference provides an opportunity for NYAA to network with dietitians across the state and elsewhere to form collaborative partnerships in getting the word out about the health benefits of New York apples.

NYAA recently signed a multi-year contract to continue being the exclusive apple category sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon.

“This has been a long-standing partnership, and we are excited to continue this relationship.  New York is the Big Apple and New York City is a perfect backdrop for New York growers to be able to showcase their apples by providing the perfect recharge fruit to the race finishers,” said Haskins.

NYAA will become more involved in the New York Road Runner races, races that happen throughout the New York City metropolitan area — handing out New York apples to the participants along with expanding opportunities to hand out New York apples for others to sample.

NYAA plans to coordinate pop-up events throughout the state and country, linking healthy eating with movement, whether running a marathon or 5K, enjoying a hike in the countryside, or a hearty walk on a city path. NYAA will work closely with runners whom NYAA sponsors to be a runner in the TCS New York City Marathon and NYRR races, as they will serve as ambassadors at various pop-up events.
