As the East Coast potato harvest works its way north from Florida, Cambridge Farms anticipates the Camden-Elizabeth City, NC, potato harvest to start on time, around June 15.

Soon after, Eastern Shore harvest will begin, and Easton, MA-based Cambridge Farms is forecasting a steady crop. Despite a lack of rain, the growers Cambridge Farms partners with have their crops under irrigation, although natural precipitation provides better ground saturation.

A wet, cool start to spring in Accomack County, VA, delayed potato planting at Dublin Farms about a week, but the crop has since caught up because of a warm April.

“We finished up planting at the end of March, and then it just stopped raining,” said Mark Hickman, operations manager and sales for Horntown, VA-based Dublin Farms. “We went probably two solid months without a measurable rain.”

The Delaware sweet corn crop is on track to hit its post-July 4 harvest date, following a cool early season that slowed growth.

A warm, but very dry period spurred growth but forced growers to heavily rely on irrigation to keep the sweet corn on track, and harvest is set to begin at the normal time, around July 10-12.

Using a “be everywhere” approach, officials at Yes! Apples are doing all they can to build consumer awareness of apples and New York state apples, in particular.

With September just around the corner, Eastern apples are poised to once again captivate consumers with their quality, flavor and versatility — reminding why they remain a perennial favorite in markets across the country.

Crunch Time Apple Growers, which grows and markets SnapDragon and RubyFrost apples in the state of New York, is expecting its largest SnapDragon harvest this season.
