Worley & McCullough attains GlobalGAP certification
Going into its third year of aligned sales through Wada Farms Marketing of Idaho, Colorado’s Worley & McCullough Inc. continues to keep pace with food-safety certification as movement of its russet-based volume stays steady.
According to Erin Cooper, grower relations/food-safety officer at the fourth- and fifth-generation family-owned operation near Monte Vista, CO, Worley & McCullough set its sights on reaching GlobalGAP compliance for the warehouse as well as “all growers who run their potatoes through the packing shed.”
Cooper said in mid-January that she and Office Manager Victoria Peters attended a two-day training seminar in California to learn about HACCP planning, and Cooper served as the growers’ GlobalGAP liaison.
“Overall, Worley & McCullough became certified and helped eight farmers obtain their GlobalGAP certificates,” she said.
She also addressed the water situation in the San Luis Valley, saying, “We are still experiencing drought-like conditions [and] are all hoping for snow in the mountains in the next couple months. A new concern that we are looking into is the decision on whether fracking will be allowed in Del Norte. With opposing viewpoints on fracking, we are researching both sides of the topic. However, with water supply already being short, fracking creates some concern of long-term effects on our farming community.”
Cooper continued, “Worley & McCullough is a company that strives to stay ahead of the curve. Continuing to foster efficiency is of the utmost importance, [and] we are considering updating our packingshed. The scale of changes is unknown at this time, but we have our eyes open and refuse to sit still.”
