William Manis Co. opens Vero Beach office
Plant City, FL-based William Manis Co. announced the opening of a Vero Beach sales office.
Lloyd Rosen, vice president of the firm, told The Produce News that it has been put in place to function as a sales arm to help the company in its future strategies. Newly hired sales associate Gary Parris, a veteran in the produce industry, will head the office.
"Gary has worked in the trade for about 25 years, primarily in citrus and watermelon sales," said Mr. Rosen. "He has held management positions in sales and in packinghouse operations. His experience extends to the international trade relative to offshore import commodities."
Mr. Rosen added that Mr. Parris, who grew up in the Vero Beach area, is well connected in local production, which will especially help Manis to diversify its citrus and watermelon programs. He also has family members in the business, including his son, who is a sales manager of a citrus packinghouse.
Mr. Parris said that he shares the values for which William Manis is known in its business deals, including customer service, and that he looks forward to helping to uphold its strong commitment in this area as well as every other area that has helped the company grow in its more than 50-year history.
"Besides being highly service-oriented, William Manis is known as a forward-thinking company that is strong in many areas of the fresh produce industry," said Mr. Parris. "In order to survive and flourish in the fresh produce category today, it is important to diversify. When you can offer a full line of high-quality products, and back that product line with impeccable service, you have a winning combination."
William Manis is a leading marketer of watermelons, citrus and other fruit, including Athena cantaloupe, strawberries, import specialties and vegetables. It ships to supermarket chains, foodservice suppliers, terminal market wholesalers and offshore receivers throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
Mr. Rosen concurred with Mr. Parris' statement regarding diversification, and added that the company's presence in the Vero Beach area will help it to expand its business dealings in that key area of the state.
"Gary's expertise, business knowledge and connections will provide us with a greater presence and ability to service customers," said Mr. Rosen. "The fresh-cut segment is growing especially strong. With the huge and ever-growing cruise ship industry that flows along the eastern Florida coastline, we will be better able to service customers in this Vero Beach proximity."
Mr. Parris has a strong game plan mentality, and at least part of that stems from his first career as a professional football player who played for the Cleveland Browns in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
