Village Farms excited about CPMA expo being held in its own ‘backyard’
Village Farms LP is a North American-based company with headquarters in Delta, BC, and in Heathrow, FL.
The company is a leading producer of high-quality greenhouse produce. It operates more than 262 acres and markets an additional 120 acres of greenhouse tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers across North America.
Helen L. Aquino, marketing manager for Village Farms, told The Produce News that Vancouver is home of Village Farms International where it has greenhouses located just south in Delta.
Village Farms will be featuring its ‘Rebellion Medley’ pack in a one-pound clamshell at the CPMA Convention and Trade Show on April 2-4 in Vancouver, BC. “Given that the show is in our backyard this year, we will have a number of folks from the company on hand at the CPMA Convention and Trade Show on April 2-4,” said Aquino. “We will be at Booth No. 432. From our sales team we will have our Senior Vice President of Sales & Sales Operation, Bret Wiley, along with the Canadian sales force of Rob Jackson, regional director retail sales; Aman Chatha, Northwest regional sales manager; and Tony Cho, Vancouver regional sales manager. Doug Kling, our senior vice president and chief marketing officer will also be there along with me representing our marketing division.”
Aquino said that the company will also have a number of its world-class farmers at the show, as well as its experts in operations and grower relations.
“Of course we will have on display all of the high-quality flavorful and exclusive tomato, pepper and cucumber varieties that Village Farms is known for,” she added. “Highlights for the CPMA include our ‘Heavenly Villagio Marzano,’ an authentic mini San Marzano tomato which is exclusive to Village Farms. It is packaged in our most popular 10-ounce zip-handled pouch bag, making it the ideal grab-and-go snacking tomato available in the market today.”
New this year, Village Farms will also be featuring its “Rebellion Medley” pack in a one-pound clamshell. This unique pack contains four to six individual flavorful plump varieties, each with a distinctive shape and flavor of its own. Colors range from red, orange, yellow, green and brown, which Aquino said “is a whole rainbow of tomatoes.”
“No two packs are alike,” she added. “Another of our signature varieties we will feature is our ‘Sinfully Sweet Campari’ tomato, a tomato so sweet and full of flavor you will think it is a crime to eat. But tomatoes are the ultimate elixir and superfood, so rest assured they are good for you. Another variety we will feature is our ‘Lip Smackin’ grape tomatoes in a new two-pound clamshell as well as in pint containers.”
Aquino noted that the company sees all categories of its customers at the CPMA expo, and it looks forward to touching base with its retail partners and to meeting new potential partners.
Rob Jackson, Village Farms regional director retail sales, said that the company looks forward to the CMPA expo every year.
“It is definitely a smaller show than the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit because it primarily features Canadian companies, where the PMA is more international in scope,” he said.
“The benefit is that this allows more direct contact with customers and new potential customers, and it affords us the opportunity for more time for in-depth conversations,” he continued.
“It is a great show and always very well organized. We are especially pleased to have this show in our own backyard this year, and there is no better city than Vancouver for a convention.”
Village Farms will have Chef Darren Brown, executive chef from Fairmont Pacific Rim, who, like everyone at Village Farms, is a great believer in the company’s high-quality greenhouse produce line.
“Chef Darren will be on hand at the CPMA this year with a fabulous tasting menu for booth visitors,” said Aquino.
“In addition, the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, directly across the street from the convention center, will be featuring Village Farms tomatoes on their menu in the Oru Restaurant. If folks do not get an opportunity to come by our booth, they will have a chance to have an outstanding meal at one of the premier restaurants in Vancouver featuring our tomatoes.”
