Unique Cold Storage offering full logistics services in newly expanded Florida facility
Unique Cold Storage and its sister company, Southern Specialties, recent expanded its facility in Pompano Beach, FL, which enables Unique Cold Storage offer additional services.
“Unique Cold Storage can receive product coming into Florida, and it will pick up product from the port or airport,” said Brian Osborn, general manager of Unique Cold Storage. “Product is brought to our warehouse, inspected, pre-cooled and ripened specifically to the item’s requirements.”
Unique Cold Storage will also warehouse product, provide inspection reports and inventories, and repack and redistribute the product.
“The company provides full logistics services,” said Mr. Osborn. “Our recent warehouse expansion enhances the services that we can provide for our customers, regardless of what the fresh fruit or vegetable item is. The expanded facility benefits us from a customer standpoint, and other grower-shippers are quickly becoming aware of the services that we perform for our customers, our growers, shippers, importers and our exporters throughout the U.S., South America and Canada.”
The facility expansion project now provides Unique Cold Storage with the use of 100,000 square feet of warehouse space with expanded office and meeting areas. The facility has 10 temperature- and humidity-controlled coolers designed to optimize storage conditions for a variety of products. Three computer-controlled ripening rooms have also been added. All staging areas and loading docks are refrigerated, and new energy-efficient lighting has been installed.
“The expansion enables Unique Cold Storage to handle imports quicker and more efficiently, and receive and ship more expediently with an additional four dock doors,” said Mr. Osborn. “We now have an enhanced capacity to cool product more efficiently, and each product is stored in its ideal environment.”
He added that the expansion also gives the company increased processing capacity and computerized ripening rooms, all with full quality assurance oversight.
