SunFed hires Jorge Ruiz as CFO
SunFed, a grower, packer, shipper and distributor based in Rio Rico, AZ, has hired Jorge Ruiz, previously with Farmer's Best International, in the newly created position of chief financial officer.
Danny Mandel, president of SunFed, made the announcement Oct. 3. Mr. Mandel told The Produce News that Mr. Ruiz "is going to be a great asset to our team."
According to a SunFed press release, Mr. Ruiz arrives at SunFed after having spent the past seven years with Farmers Best. During his tenure there, he took on both operative and administrative roles and played an integral part in the management team that helped Farmers Best achieve dynamic growth.
Farmers Best, like SunFed, is located in the Rio Rico Industrial Park just north of Nogales, AZ.
As SunFeds new CFO, Mr. Ruiz will oversee the [continuation of] the explosive growth that has characterized SunFeds operations in the past 12 years, the press release stated.
The time was right to bring Mr. Ruiz on board, according to Mr. Mandel.
With the kind of growth we have experienced the last few years, to maintain the standards and strengths that we have becomes a goal in itself, he said.
SunFed has been achieving a sales growth of 25 percent a year and has enjoyed a demand-driven expansion that reflects recognition of the high quality and consistency of SunFed product.
To continue growing at that pace while maintaining the standards to which our customers have become accustomed, he said, will require the discipline and planning skills that Jorge Ruiz brings to SunFed.
Mr. Ruiz, a graduate of the ITESM School of Business in Monterrey, Mexico, will take immediate responsibility for overseeing the construction of SunFeds new 60,000-square-foot facility located to the immediate north of the companys current location.
He will also help us refine our strategic road map as we move forward, Mr. Mandel said. Bringing Mr. Ruiz on board will allow us to focus on both our current and long-term planning.
Coming to SunFed was an opportunity Mr. Ruiz said he couldnt let pass, according to the press release. I see the growth and I see the promise. These are exciting times at SunFed. I wanted to be part of that, he said.
