Southern Corporate Packers continues growth track
Since 1989, Southern Corporate Packers, headquartered in Immokalee, FL, has worked to bolster its reputation in the fresh produce arena. Originally operating as a broker, President Brian Arrigo said the company is solidly entrenched in its current activity as a grower/packer/shipper of mixed vegetables and melons.
The company moves melons grown in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Nicaragua, giving Southern Corporate Packers a year-round reach with distribution. In Florida, Southern Corporate Packers grows melons on 1,400 acres in South and Central Florida locations.
A variety of vegetables such as bell and specialty peppers, squash and eggplant are grown on 300 acres in the Sunshine State.
Arrigo said the veg deal will wind down at the end of May. “Then we’ll move north,” he told The Produce News.
Florida watermelon production ramped up on April 15 and will continue through Labor Day. “We’re expecting the crop will be really nice,” he stated. “We’re one of the largest growers of minis on the East Coast.”
Southern Corporate Packers is also the owner of Chill Fresh Produce Inc., a wholesaler/distributor based in Kitchener, ON. Arrigo said these strategic locations allow Southern Corporate Packers to meet and exceed customer guarantees of product freshness.
The company has seven packingsheds along the Eastern Seaboard. Logistics are handled through its sister company, Chill Fresh Transportation. “Our transportation division has access to over 9,000 trucks throughout Canada and the United States,” the company website stated.
Commodities are marketed under the “Yum-Yum!” brand, which Arrigo said is “world renowned.” Southern Corporate Packers services all market sectors. “We do all the major chain stores,” he added.
Several years ago, the company purchased a new packing facility in Immokalee. “In 2015, we will add 60,000 square feet [to this facility],” Arrigo stated.
Southern Corporate Packers recently hired Jay Jones to oversee field operations. Adam Homan also joined the company as part of its sales team.
