Santa Cruz new cold storage construction under way
rio rico, az — Santa Cruz Cold Storage is building a modern refrigerated warehouse this fall. The owner of the warehouse is Old Tucson Road Property. Leading partners in Old Tucson are Brian and Scott Vandervoet, who own Vandervoet & Associates Inc.
Scott Vandervoet said the new facility may be ready by mid-November but because of the timing of shipping seasons, Vandervoet & Associates plans not to move into the new office space until the first week of January.
In late September visiting the construction site at Santa Cruz Cold Storage were partners in the project, Scott and Brian Vandervoet. The building has 26,000 square feet of cold chain-controlled warehousing space and a two-story, 6,000-square-foot office on one side. The cold storage is divided into three rooms with different temperatures. The space will be maximized by occupancy by three firms with different peak shipping seasons.
Vandervoet’s primary Nogales business is in the fall and spring seasons. So, to maximize the facility, Healthy Trends Produce Co. LLC, which specializes in wintertime peppers, will be moving into Santa Cruz Cold Storage. The facility’s use will be extended into May and June by grape shipper SCC Fresh LLC. Sergio Chamberlain owns SCC Fresh and will also be moving into Santa Cruz Cold Storage. Bobby Astengo is a partner in, and runs, Healthy Trends.
For the last 11 years Vandervoet & Associates has occupied space in the Prime Sales Inc. building, shipping from that warehouse on an in-and-out contract. For a decade before that, Vandervoet was in the Produce Exchange Building.
