SAF heads to Capitol Hill
The Society of American Florists’ Congressional Action Days, the industry’s annual grassroots campaign in Washington, DC, takes place March 9-10.
“I have attended for many years now, and I have seen positive results that not only affect my business but have affected myself and my family, too,” Dave Self, owner at Wyld West Annuals in Loxahatchee, FL, and chair of the SAF Government Joint Council, said in a press release.
Retail florists, floral designers, wholesalers, growers, greenhouse and nursery operators, suppliers, importers, researchers and educators all pay taxes, create jobs and support the economic health of the United States. It’s important that Congress is made aware of “who we are, why we matter and what we need to succeed,” according to the release.
The two-day event includes issues and advocacy training by lobbyists, congressional appointments, a first-timers’ reception, a grassroots breakfast, a U.S. Capitol tour and a moonlight monuments tour. Individuals who register by Feb. 20 qualify for a $50 early-bird registration discount. Plus, each registration includes an additional free registration for a second person from the same company who has never attended before.
