National Mango Board names new marketing director
The National Mango Board has named Dan Spellman as its new director of marketing.
Spellman, who officially joined the Orlando, FL-based organization on Feb. 21, brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to the board, having previously worked in the online travel and technology development fields. He also has had experience working with large membership associations during his career.
Spellman attended the recent Viva Fresh Expo in Dallas, his first large-scale produce industry event, and was duly impressed. “Viva Fresh was outstanding, as it brought the entire industry together, from the various boards to importers and retailers, to celebrate the tremendous scope of the industry,” he said.
A graduate of Florida State University, where he earned his degree in marketing, Spellman went on to earn his master’s degree and doctorate from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. For his doctorate, he focused on social media marketing’s influence on cross-generational purchasing behaviors.
“I look forward to this opportunity with the National Mango Board to continue to drive awareness and educate consumers about this versatile fruit,” said Spellman. “Our goal is to drive a clear call to action for our customers seeking mangos, whether through our digital or traditional campaigns. Mangos, in terms of potential, have just scratched the surface.”
He added that the mission is to keep driving consumption of mangos in the United States by continuing to innovate NMB’s messaging.
“It is a true honor to work with a great team,” he said. “We have been given an opportunity to share the story of mangos and ensure that mangos are on everyone’s grocery list.”
