Pacific AgPack opening Kennett Square warehouse
Pacific AgPack, headquartered in Watsonville, CA, is set to open its new warehouse in Kennett Square, PA, on Oct. 9. “We’re very excited to be in the area,” President Dave Baum told The Produce News. “The expansion into the Kennett Square location will support the local mushroom growers.”
Pacific AgPack is a leading provider of plastic consumer packaging and accessories for shippers and grocery retail use. The company has more than 20 years of experience packing and labeling commodities such as strawberries, bushberries, blueberries, tomatoes, grapes, salad and herbs as well as fruit and other miscellaneous commodities.
In the future, Baum said Pacific AgPack will move additional fresh produce items from the Kennett Square warehouse.
Baum said the company is committed to environmental sustainability. Recycled polyethylene terephthalate is used in much of the company’s packaging, thereby reducing burdens at landfills.
Pacific AgPack made a decision five years ago to expand its business into major mushroom production areas in North America. The new Kennett Square warehouse will give local mushroom growers the ability to take advantage of a variety of services, including packaging, labeling and inventory control. According to Baum, daily shipment services are offered with bobtail trucks used for just-in-time delivery.
“We have 11 different mushroom tills,” Baum went on to say. Sizes include six-, eight-, 10-, 12-, 16- and 24-ounce packaging, as well as long Portabella trays, two-pound Portabella trays, No. 2 flat trays and No. 15 single Portabella trays. Twenty-four-ounce Costco packaging is also offered.
“The tills are FDA approved and come in different colors,” he added.
Pacific AgPack has hired 10 people to operate the Kennett Square facility. “We have live dedicated service,” Baum said, meaning that customer calls will be answered by a live person, not an answering system.
