Mi Pueblo hires new chief financial officer
Mi Pueblo Foods, the San Jose, CA-based family-grown Hispanic grocery chain, announced that effective immediately industry veteran Martin Cortes will oversee the company’s financial and accounting operations, risk management and technology as its chief financial officer.
"As we continue to find the best ways to serve our communities in the short- and long-term, it was important for our organization to have a strong financial leader who would look beyond just the numbers and consider Mi Pueblo’s values and vision at every decision,” Javier Ramirez, chief executive officer and president of Mi Pueblo, said in a press release. "Martin’s extensive experience in leading corporate growth strategies will be an incredible asset to improve our financial efficiency and create shareholder value.”
Prior to joining Mi Pueblo, Cortes spent three years at Jonakari Enterprises, where he leveraged his 25-year expertise in accounting, finance and operations to provide strategic solutions for small and large organizations in various sectors, including food retail, consumer packaged goods, restaurants, chemical distribution, engineering and education. He is an expert in turnaround situations, systems development, process re-engineering and cultural transitions.
Cortes has also served as CFO for Cardenas Markets and Del Real Foods, spearheading the companies’ short- and long-term strategies that resulted in an $11 million dividend to shareholders, a first in the companies’ history. Cortes’ additional experience in financial management includes Line-X Franchise Development Group and CKE Restaurants Inc.
Cortes has been nominated multiple times for CFO of the Year by the Orange County Business Journal and CalCPA OC/Long Beach Chapter. He has a bachelor’s degree from California State University-Long Beach and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
