Maui Hawaiian Gold pineapple makes splash at PGA event
Maui Pineapple Co. made a splash at the first PGA Tour tournament of 2005 in January, showcasing its "Hawaiian Gold? brand pineapple before more than 30,000 players, spectators and volunteers at the winners-only Mercedes Championships.
The event took place on the brand?s home turf, the 18-hole championship Plantation Course of Kapalua Resort, which is also home to 2,000 acres of pineapple fields that are actively cultivated by Maui Pineapple Co.
?Hawaiian Gold? promotions at the PGA Tour season opener included daily fresh "Hawaiian Gold? pineapple sampling at the tournament?s Spectator Village, with service by muumuu-clad tutus (Hawaiian grandmothers) as well as golfwear-attired volunteers; special presentations of island-style dishes featuring the luscious sun-ripened "Hawaiian Gold? pineapple for VIP guests at Kapalua Resort?s luxury hotels, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and Kapalua Bay Hotel; giveaways of six $100 certificates for dinner at two of Maui?s top restaurants which are located on Kapalua Resort, Vino and Sansei Seafood & Sushi Restaurant; sales of new "Hawaiian Gold? brand pineapples, with proceeds benefiting Kapalua Maui charities.
?Maui?s sunny days, cool nights and rich volcanic soil create the ideal climate for our "Hawaiian Gold? brand, which many consider the best-tasting pineapple in the world. It's very fitting that many visitors enjoyed their first taste of "Hawaiian Gold? here at Kapalua Resort and its dramatic Plantation Course, as this land has been home to Maui Pineapple Company for more than 100 years," said Howard Nager, vice president of fresh sales and marketing for Maui Pineapple Co. "We look forward to expanding our promotional activities in support of "Hawaiian Gold? in the coming months, especially at upscale events on Maui."
