LD Logistics chugging along
As the firm gets closer to its 10th anniversary, LD Logistics LLC, based in Bronx, NY, continues to hone its offerings and concentrate its business.
“We no longer have any satellite offices,” said Lance Dichter, who wears the general manager title for the company. “We have concentrated all of our business under one roof, which works better for us.”
Though they are a nationwide broker, their location on the Hunts Point Terminal Market in the South Bronx gives the firm a natural advantage for loads coming into the nation’s busiest produce market. LD Logistics focuses its attention on the major points of origin including California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon and Texas, but it also loads in Florida and from other growing districts across the country.
Dichter founded the company more than nine years ago as dry freight hauler on the advice of a friend. He moved toward perishable commodities fairly quickly and that has been his specialty for most of the time. LD Logistics continues to look toward growing its business as Dichter said the “freight is out there; you just have to go after it.”
He said the key to growth is working with loyal customers and growing your business as they grow their operations. He added that there is always competition but a change in regulations requiring a higher bond as a cost of entry does deter some less-than-serious speculators from jumping into the business.
“Now you have to post a $75,000 bond to get started. That’s much different than when you could open your doors for $10,000,” he said.
Still he reiterated that there is freight out there, so there always seems to be new brokers getting into the business. LD Logistics has a stable staff as Dichter said there have been no changes in personnel over the past year.
