Kroger's Tenney to be featured speaker at United reception honoring women in produce
WASHINGTON - The United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association announced that Jenney Tenney, produce merchandiser for The Kroger Co.'s Great Lakes Division, will be the featured speaker at the 2005 Women in Produce reception during the United Produce Show at FMI, April 30-May 3 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
The annual reception honors all women working in the produce industry, and recognizes one outstanding female industry leader.
Ms. Tenney began her 21-year career with Kroger in 1984 as a management trainee in the company's Cincinnati-Dayton division. Since then she has held a variety of operating and merchandising management positions, including floral merchandiser, deli-bakery procurement manager at Kroger's headquarters in Cincinnati, and assistant produce merchandiser for both the Columbus, OH, and Cincinnati-Dayton divisions.
Ms. Tenney was promoted to produce merchandiser for Kroger's Columbus division in 1999, and four years later, she was promoted to produce merchandiser for the company's new Great Lakes Division, which operates 245 stores in Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized at the reception honoring women in produce. It's very rewarding to work for a company that places such a high value on product quality, positive community relations, exceptional customer service and diversity in the workplace," Ms. Tenney said in an April 6 statement. "Looking back over my career, I'm extremely proud to be a part of Kroger's shared vision of offering world-class, competitively priced products in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Ms. Tenney has also served on the boards of directors for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and Prevent Blindness Ohio. In addition, she has helped direct Kroger's annual United Way campaign in Cincinnati and fundraising for the MDA Foundation. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting.
"The reception honoring women in produce is one of United's most important recognition programs for the industry, and we're delighted to honor Jenney and introduce her as a role model for the industry, said United Immediate Past Chairman Karen Caplan, chief executive officer at Friedas Inc., one of the original founders of the event.
The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, immediately following the close of the trade show at the McCormick Place Convention Center. One of the more popular networking events for both men and women at the association s convention, the reception has been held annually since 1995. Past honorees have included industry leaders Janice Honigberg, Tonya Antle, Kathleen Nave, Rosemary Talley, Jan Fleming and Frieda Caplan.
Due to overwhelming past demand, attendance to the reception now requires a Produce Convention Package ticket, or an entrance fee may be paid on-site at the United special ticket booth or at the reception door.
