Key Food opens 150th store, introduces new banner
Key Food Stores Co-operative Inc., a chain of independently owned and operated grocery stores, announced the grand opening of its 150th location and introduce a new banner into its supermarket family: Urban Market.
Urban Market can best be described as a hybrid boutique supermarket, creating a unique shopping experience that intertwines full selections of both conventional and specialty items.
“We are so excited to open our 150th store — a milestone for the co-op — while at the same time welcoming Urban Market into our family,” said Gino Palummo, vice president of business development and chief customer officer. “In our constant effort to evolve with changing neighborhoods, we have come up with a prototype that we feel will cater to the people of Williamsburg [in Brooklyn, NY] as well as the surrounding towns, and give them a great shopping experience.”
“I am so proud to pioneer Urban Market and bring this new concept to the neighborhood of Williamsburg,” said store owner Colin Xie. “As part of the Key Food family, my goal is to provide the community with superior quality and a highly enjoyable shopping experience.”
To celebrate, Urban Market is hosting a grand opening event at 9 a.m. Dec. 6 at 11 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11249. The celebration will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as live entertainment for the whole family at the store from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez, as well as other local officials, and Key Food executives, including Chief Executive Officer Dean Janeway, Chief Operating Officer George Knobloch, Vice President of Strategic Planning Chet Koby and Palummo will be in attendance.
