To-Jo Mushrooms is proud to be a part of the 2014 "Produce for Kids Get Healthy, Give Hope" campaign.
Starting May 2, Produce for Kids kicked off its 12th annual campaign that is being supported by 17 participating retail chains. Since its inception, the program has raised nearly $5 million in overall contributions.
Produce for Kids continues its involvement with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and Sprout TV to help encourage exercise and healthy eating habits through in-store appearances and online branding programs with a variety of Sprout characters.
Available in over 50 million homes, Sprout is the first 24-hour preschool destination available on TV, on-demand and online for children ages 2 to 5, and their parents and caregivers.
To-Jo Mushrooms, headquartered in Avondale, PA, joined the produce industry efforts by hosting a joint #FreshGrilling Twitter party May 14 with popular blogger, Aleksandra Nearing, of Busy Working Mama.
Together they will promote the campaign and excite followers about healthy mushroom recipes and the summer grilling season.
The party will drive traffic to participating retail partners like Giant Food of Landover as part of the Get Healthy, Give Hope campaign by placing shelf cards near the products, such as To-Jo's mushroom items.
Giant Food of Landover, MD, operates 171 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
The campaign will run through June 12. Participating grocers also include Giant, Martin's, Meijer, Price Chopper, Publix and Stop & Shop.
"We are thrilled to participate in this program with 'Produce for Kids' and Giant Landover," said Anthony D'Amico, president of To-Jo Mushrooms. Supporting the Get Healthy, Give Hope campaign allows To-Jo to help to educate the community on healthy eating habits for children while generating revenue for Giant's Our Family Foundation. Cause marketing and philanthropic giving is an important part of To-Jo's mission and we are proud to be part of this year's program."
To-Jo Mushrooms is a fourth- generation grower and shipper of fresh and prepared mushrooms for both the foodservice and retail industries. The company grows over 50 million pounds of white, brown and specialty mushrooms annually, and it distributes its full line of fresh mushroom products to over 22 states by its company-owned fleet of vehicles. To-Jo's value-added lines of processed products are distributed nationally through a wide network of distribution partners.
Produce for Kids is a philanthropic organization that brings the produce industry together to educate consumers about healthy eating habits with fresh produce while raising funds for local children's non-profit organizations.
Our Family Foundation awarded donations totaling $11.6 million in 2012 to organizations in the local communities with a mission of fighting hunger, improving the lives of children and building healthy communities.
"As with all produce companies, we're in business to make money, support staff, provide top-quality produce and provide unsurpassed service," said D'Amico. "But business is more than just about selling product. It is also about giving back to communities, those in need, those less fortunate or those afflicted in ways that only many dedicated people coming together can help.
"It is To-Jo's privilege and pride to do our part to help children live better, healthier lives," he added.
