JemD Farms featuring specialty produce in a foodservice-friendly format at PMA Foodservice
Jim DiMenna, president of Red Sun Farms, formerly JemD Farms, headquartered in Kingsville, Ontario, will be exhibiting at the PMA Foodservice Conference & Expo in Monterey, CA, on July 25-27 at Booth No. 1. Jim Cathey, sales and sourcing manager for the company, will be attending to represent the company.
“We’ll be featuring our specialty produce in a foodservice-friendly format along with menu development assistance,” said DiMenna. “We’ll also be discussing our co-branded promotional opportunities and our joint public relation events upon request with customers and prospective customers.”
Red Sun Farms also offers its customers new restaurant opening support and chef education opportunities. It refers to the educational programs as “Greenhouse 101” and “Why Greenhouse Grown?”
The company is also launching its new heirloom case at the expo, which was designed and developed for the ‘Hacienda Special Reserve’ item.
Red Sun Farms is particularly excited about the first Virginia facility crop coming out of it later this year.
“We seeded our new Dublin, Pulaski County, VA, greenhouse facility in mid-June with both organic and conventional tomatoes,” said DiMenna. “We recently held a job fair in the area and received over 325 applications, which was outstanding. We expect to have over 200 local employees when all phases of the facility are completed in about four years. Our goal was to create local job opportunities for the community, and the job fair indicates that we won’t have a problem doing that.”
The Virginia facility is Red Sun Farms’ initiation into organic greenhouse production.
The company seeded both organic and conventional grape and cluster tomatoes in their separated zones at the new facility, which celebrated its groundbreaking on July 1 of last year. It is forecasted to start movement there in late September to the first week of October.
