Fred Scott joins management team at Summertime Farms
Fred Scott has joined the managerial team at Summertime Farms as director of sales and marketing. The new position is charged with expanding the sales and distribution of the Des Moines, IA-based line of potato products labeled as Summertime Farms in Iowa and the surrounding Midwest region.
Ron Petersen, owner and president of Summertime Farms, said the 47-year-old company is poised to grow rapidly, scaling its operations through expanded partnerships with regional and national retailers, Midwestern potato farmers and the addition in the last three years of Summertime Farms acreages in eastern and central Iowa including their new farmland and production facility based in Carlisle, IA in late 2020.
“Ron needed more time to work on the business instead of in the business,” said Scott, who sold his ten-year old clothing and apparel business, Locally Grown Clothing Co., to RAYGUN for an undisclosed amount prior to joining the Summertime Farms team.
Scott said his passion for promoting local and all things Iowa, teamed with his experience growing Locally Grown Clothing Co. distribution from a side hustle at the Des Moines Farmers’ Market, to a full-time pursuit of more than 800 retailers nationwide, will translate well to Summertime Farms. “I was able to grow my business by building meaningful, genuine relationships with buyers and retailers,” said Scott. “Ron talks about how much relationships matter, and I couldn’t agree more. Summertime Farms is a vertically integrated grower-packer-shipper of Summertime Potato Company products. The company currently distributes red potatoes, white potatoes, gold potatoes, russet potatoes and medley potatoes as well as provides private label packaging services.
