Gourmet Trading’s Calif. blues start early
Gourmet Trading Co. is preparing for an early start of its California blueberry season and began packing in mid-April.
Larger California blueberry volume will translate to increased promotions for Gourmet Trading Co. and its customer base.
Marketing Manager Chloé Varennes said the company markets blues throughout North America as well as Europe, Asia and Australia.
Along with increased volume, Varennes is expecting good quality and large blueberries this season.
"The season is set to begin three weeks earlier than previous years due to great weather in California," Julia Inestroza, marketing director for the Los Angeles-based company, said in a press release. "With the season starting so early we hope to satisfy the markets high demand for blueberries right after the Chilean season."
From now until the end of June, Gourmet Trading anticipates promotable volumes of fresh blueberries from its California farm. The company offers blueberry pack sizes for retail, foodservice, wholesale and export in a variety of sizes.
“Retail is our largest customer base,” Varennes said to The Produce News.
Blueberries are packed under the “Gourmet Trading Co.” brand, which will feature the “California Grown” logo this season. Berries are also marketed under the “Green Giant Fresh” brand.
