Gourmet Trading selects FoodLink for produce traceability
FoodLink, a leading provider of supply chain and commerce solutions for the fresh food industry, based in Los Gatos, CA, announced March 4 that Gourmet Trading Co., a leading distributor of fresh asparagus in North America, will implement the company's produce traceability solution on all packed and shipped produce within the United States.
"We have started to implement the system in our largest region, and we are pleased with the results and look forward to rolling the system out in additional regions soon," Evagelina Kaudze, food safety director for Gourmet Trading, said in a press release.
Gourmet Trading's website now features a link to FoodLink, where retailers can look up the code found on their PTI label to find out the lot code, global trade item number (GTIN) and product name.
Consumers and retailers are demanding more information about the sources of the fresh food they purchase, according to the press release. As a result, growers and shippers of fresh produce are turning to solutions such as FoodLink to enable faster and more cost effective sharing of information about where food is grown, and all the way through the stages of harvesting, packing, shipping, sales and receiving.
"The fresh food industry is getting serious about supply chain transparency, and FoodLink customers are realizing the benefits of cloud-based solutions and real-time data to bring fresh, safe food to market more efficiently than ever before," Kevin Brooks, chief marketing officer for FoodLink, added in the press release. "Forward-thinking companies such as Gourmet Trading are leading the way, and we're happy to help them succeed."
