Good crop of asparagus for Gourmet Trading
Gourmet Trading Co., headquartered in Los Angeles, expects it will harvest a volume of asparagus from its operations in Pasco, WA, that is on par with the 2013 season.
“The harvest began last week and will [conclude] by the end of June,” Marketing Manager Chloé Varennes told The Produce News on April 17. “We are expecting a good quality crop this season.”
The company, one of North America’s major suppliers of fresh asparagus, is celebrating its ninth consecutive season in Washington. “We look forward to continued investment and growth in the Washington asparagus industry in the following years with our own new plantings in the region,” stated Gourmet Trading Co. President Brian Miller.
Bunched and bagged asparagus is marketed under the “Gourmet Trading Company” and “Green Giant Fresh” brands. “The majority of our customers are retail, but we also have foodservice and wholesale customers as well,” said Varennes. “We sell our Washington asparagus to the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe and Australia.”
Product is packed in 11- and 28-pound cases as well as in special packs such as retail-ready shelf life-extending bagged and trayed asparagus.
