Front Row triples facility size
ST. LOUIS — With a short move through St. Louis, Front Row Produce LLC has tripled its operating space.
The March move came 10 years after Tony Pupillo founded the company. Front Row started with a second partner who left the firm after two years.
Pupillo has refurbished a 60,000-square-foot warehouse that was previously operated by a cheese company. The facility’s three coolers have been partitioned to give Front Row five different temperature zones.
Front Row moves from a 20,000-square-foot facility that is a couple of blocks from St. Louis’ produce market. The new facility is 15 minutes away from the market.
“The [new] building is bigger and more efficient,” Pupillo said. “We outgrew this facility and for the last couple of years it’s been harder and harder to work. We have added on five times here. We ran out of real estate. The flow will be so much better.”
The move will enable Front Row to expand its business, he noted. The firm is moving from a facility with five truck bays to one with 13. While Front Row’s former facility was cold chain-controlled and food safety-certified, those benefits will be expanded in the new location.
Currently Front Row services foodservice operates and repacks for retail and foodservice companies. The firm also breaks cartons to package for foodservice firms.
Pupillo estimated that 65 percent to 75 percent of his business is within St. Louis. This involves foodservice and retail chain customers.
